Grid the Giantess was overjoyed to see Thor when the Viking thundergod summoned her one day. She hadn't seen him in a long time.

Grid was less pleased to discover that Thor was on his way to see Geirrodur, King of the Trolls.

Geirrodur dwelt in a mountain house near Grid's hut, and, like the Giants who were his kin, he despised the Valhalla gods.

"But why are you going to Geirrodur, Thor?" Grid inquired, concerned. "Where is your mighty hammer, Mjolnir?"

"Mjolnir is in Valhalla," Thor stated as he sat down to the beautiful meal Grid had prepared for him. "Grid, I've heard that Geirrodur's house is full of wonderful things. His banqueting hall is adorned with jewels as dazzling as the sun. And he has chests brimming with gold, silver, and money..." Thor paused to take a big bite of Grid's delicious meat pie. "Geirrodur encouraged me to come and see everything," Thor continued. "But he was scared of Miolnir, so I left it behind."

Suddenly Thor noticed Grid's anxious expression.

"What's the matter, Grid?" he inquired.

"What's the deal with your frown?"

"Who told you all of this?" Grid inquired.

"Loki the demon," Thor said in response. "Loki visited Geirrodur's mansion and discovered all the treasures."

"Loki! Oh, no!" Grid's voice was concerned and sceptical. Loki was a shrewd character. He was usually up to something nefarious, and Grid suspected this was one of them.

Grid had guessed correctly. Loki had been found looking in through the windows of Geirrodur's mountain home, and he had been apprehended and imprisoned. Geirrodur had long desired to get revenge on Thor for the death of his cousin, Hrungnir the Giant. This was his opportunity.

Geirrodur would not let Loki depart unless he vowed to persuade Thor to visit his mountain home and leave the huge and frightening Miolnir in Valhalla.

"I am certain Loki was deceiving you," Grid said to Thor. "You know how evil and mischievous he can be!" You should never trust the Trolls; there is some wickedness afoot; some damage will come to you, my precious Thor. Thor was becoming concerned. Grid was typically correct when she sensed the gods' foes were plotting something evil. Yet there was a major issue.

"I can't go back to Valhalla right now," Thor objected. Everyone will think I'm a wimp. What should I do?"

Grid walked over to her dining hall's large oak chest. It held her most prized treasures. She lifted the top and took some of them out.

"Here," she murmured as she returned to Thor. "Take this Might Girdle and this iron rod. And here are some iron gloves...

They have frequently defended me against the Trolls and Giants. I hope they will also protect you!"

Grid was quite grateful to Thor. He was on the lookout for danger as he made his way towards Geirrodur's mountain house, thanks to her warning. He had to cross the Vimur River to get there.

As Thor arrived, he discovered that the river was not running silently. It was a raging river, moving at breakneck speed. 'Grid's girdle and the rod will get me across,' Thor reasoned. He tightened the girdle around his waist for more power, and as he walked into the swift-moving waves, he smashed the iron rod into the riverbed. The floods rushed against him with great force, but Thor remained erect. Then, in the middle of the river, Thor discovered it was flowing twice as fast.

Even with the iron rod to balance him, he found it difficult to keep on his feet.

Thor has just noticed a female Troll standing on the riverbank. She was looking at him with a devilish grin.

"That's Geirrodur's daughter, Gialp!" Thor sobbed. "Grid has repeatedly advised me not to trust her.

Gialp was holding the riverbanks apart. So she was preparing for the flood that was about to drown him!

"We'll see what happens!" Thor yelled. He grabbed a massive boulder from the riverbank and hurled it towards Gialp. She sprang aside, yelping in fear. With a huge splash, the boulder landed in the river. Because the boulder had stopped the river's flow, its waters instantly became as peaceful as a pond.

When Gialp noticed this, she began to flee. She was safely within Geirrodur's mountain-dwelling by the time Thor clambered up the riverbank.

"The idea to drown Thor has failed," she said disappointedly to her father. "He's on his way right now."

"Never mind, daughter," Geirrodur murmured, an unpleasant grin on his face. "We have alternative options for capturing him! See! "He remarked this while pointing out the window. "There go my Trolls to greet Thor - or so he thinks."

Thor was on the lookout for danger as the welcoming Trolls approached him. Never put your trust in a Troll! Grid had frequently told Thor this, and she was correct!

Even yet, Thor had no choice but to follow the Trolls inside the guest house they had prepared for him.

"Stay here, great Thor," the Trolls politely requested. "King Geirrodur is preparing his Great Hall to welcome you in the manner that you deserve."

Thor sat in the guest house's only chair. After he struggled with the water, he was grateful for the opportunity to rest. Thor sat back. The chair was quite comfortable. Suddenly, all of a sudden, he felt himself rising upwards. He walked up and up till he was almost touching the stone roof of the guest house. 'Grid's iron rod will save me,' Thor reasoned and pressed the rod against the roof with all his might. He pushed harder and harder. The chair then toppled and landed on the floor with a loud crash. Thor lowered his gaze. Gialp and her sister Greip had been crushed by the chair. As they lay imprisoned beneath, they screamed in agony and rage.

"You deserved it!" Thor stated. "You tried to crush me against the roof, but instead I crushed you."

Meanwhile, King Geirrodur warmed himself by the fire in his large hall.

As he heard shrieks and thumps in the guest house, he assumed his girls had crushed Thor. As Geirrodur heard the heavy tramp of feet outside and saw the doors shoved back, it was Thor who stood there, not Greip and Gialp. His face was as black as a hurricane with wrath.

Geirrodur, terrified, grabbed some fire tongs from behind him. He took a white-hot iron bar from the fire and hurled it at Thor. The thunder god quickly put on the iron gloves Grid had given him and grabbed the bar. "This is all yours. Geirrodur! "He yelled. Thor threw the iron bar back at Geirrodur before he realised what was going on.

Geirrodur ducked behind an iron pillar as it whizzed across the hall. There was a massive crash. The pillar and King Geirrodur were then found on the hall floor. Both of them had been severed. The white-hot bar had gone directly through them and then through the house's wall. It didn't stop until it was buried deep in the ground outside.

The Trolls who had been watching all of this began to scream in terror and attempted to flee. Yet they couldn't get away from Thor. He went around the hall, twirling Grid's iron rod from side to side, each strike killing scores of little Trolls.

Thor was so enraged by what had happened in Geirrodur's dwelling that his rage could be heard from Valhalla beyond the mountains.

"Wait until I get that demon in my clutches, Loki!" Thor roared as he rode back to Valhalla in a massive chariot. "He'll pay for lying to me about Geirrodur's treasure. I'm going to teach him a lesson he'll never forget."

The entire Valhalla rocked when Thor jumped off his chariot and marched inside, crying, "Loki! Loki! Loki, I'm coming for you!"

Thor searched high and low, but Loki was nowhere to be found. Loki had indeed heard Thor return to Valhalla, and he knew exactly what would happen if he stayed. As a result, Loki stormed out of Valhalla and ran for the mountains. He buried himself in the deepest cave he could find, in the farthest corridor. As Thor's voice thundered out and shook the cave walls, he crouched there, frightened. Loki lived in the mountains for a long time before venturing outside the cave. It took much longer for him to consider returning to Valhalla.
