Chaos was present in the beginning, and a giant, pitch-black egg emerged from the boiling mixture in the shadows. Pan Gu, a sleeping giant, was born inside of this egg. He slept and grew for 18,000 years. Finally, Pan Gu woke up, stretched out his gigantic limbs, yawned, and cracked the egg in half.

The lighter bottom half sank to become the earth, and the heavier top half flew up to become the heavens, creating the yin and yang.

Pan Gu stood between the two parts, his head holding up the skies and his feet on the ground. He was happy with what had happened but worried lest the two parts should join together again and remake Chaos. He continued to stand like this for a further 18,000 years, forcing the sky and earth apart.

Pan Gu, who had before been certain they would never reunite and was now worn out from his efforts, collapsed, and passed away.

However, the world began to take shape from his existence. His final breaths turned into the wind, the clouds, and the thunderous rumble. The sun appeared in one eye, the moon in the other. His body and limbs evolved into China's five tallest mountains, while his blood created the oceans and rivers.

Pan Gu's skin and hair transformed into the plants and trees, growing in the ground made from his flesh, and the hair on his head transformed into the countless stars glittering in the night sky.

His teeth and bones transformed into priceless stones and minerals as his sweat flowed like rain and dew, replenishing everything on earth.

Mankind eventually emerged from the myriad little animals that had previously resided on Pan Gu's body, spreading throughout the globe and into every nook and cranny of the beast that was Pan Gu.
