This haunting apparition has been the subject of numerous eerie encounters, leaving many in fear. Join us as we explore the history and legends surrounding this ghostly figure and uncover the spine-tingling experiences of those who have encountered her.

Over Court, a historical gem, was erected around 1580 for John Dowel of Bristol in Almondsbury, north of Bristol. Following a tragic fire in 1977, the court was regrettably razed in 1980. However, the listed archway, the old coach house, and the stables, now transformed into mews houses, stand as silent witnesses to its rich history.

The Haunting of Over Court

Over Court has long been shrouded in mystery, with whispers of a ghostly figure known as the White Lady haunting its halls. Her ethereal presence, as reported by many, sends shivers down the spine. The origins of this haunting are as enigmatic as the figure herself, with some speculating she is the spirit of a woman who met a tragic end in the house, while others believe she is a restless soul seeking justice.

The haunting became famous when carol singers visited the Elizabethan manor in 1937. On their way back through the entrance arch, the carol singers, startled and wide-eyed, saw a bright white figure floating above the ground, radiating a bluish glow. It was in full view for about half a minute so the group could make out its tall, pointed headdress before the figure moved away in a zig-zag manner before disappearing.

Who was this mysterious figure? It was supposedly the wife of an owner of Over Court who had had an affair with a local man. Upon finding out about her infidelity, the husband shot her. Still, she was able to scramble away from the house and eventually drowned in the fishpond. From there, she rises on the anniversary of her death, shortly before Christmas. An alternative story says that she committed suicide in the pond.

Regardless of the veracity of the tale, the legend of the White Lady has been handed down through the ages, each retelling adding new layers of mystery. The Ghostly White Lady has become a symbol of the haunting history of Over Court; her presence continues to captivate and terrify those who dare to investigate the dark secrets of the estate.

Paranormal investigators have conducted numerous investigations at Over Court, using equipment such as EVP recorders and EMF detectors to try and capture evidence of the supernatural. They have spent countless hours in the dark, silent halls, hoping to catch a glimpse of the White Lady. Despite their efforts, the true nature of the haunting remains elusive. Whether you believe in ghosts or not, the legend of the White Lady continues to captivate and intrigue those who dare to investigate the history of Over Court.
